Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kastasasmita revealed that Indonesia and Singapore will build a logistics hub in Batam. This discussion was carried out during the visit of Singapore’s Minister of Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing.

Although the bilateral work plan has not yet been detailed, Agus is optimistic about the success in building the ASEAN logistics network.

“Batam will be used as a logistical hub between Indonesia and Singapore, this will have a wide impact on ASEAN and other regions,” he said, Tuesday (1/28).

Furthermore, Agus explained the meeting with Chan Chun Sing also discussed strategies to strengthen the economy in the ASEAN region.

“Indonesia is considered as the coordinator of the Asean countries. Earlier the Singapore Minister said that Indonesia was an example, a Big Brother,” Agus explained.

He explained that one of the points of cooperation was the continuation of the Link and Match vocational program. The government is targeting 10 thousand workers from Indonesia to receive the vocational program.

To note, in 2019 RI-Singapore has conducted training for 74 vocational teachers in the field of technical education and vocational education. This technical skills improvement program covers the fields of mechanical engineering, electricity and industrial automation.

In addition, the government is offering the construction of a Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MRO) center to Singapore in the Bintan Islands. Agus revealed that he had prepared a location and there was an understanding between Singaporeans to allocate MRO operations from Clarks in the Philippines to Bintan Islands.

“We will follow up this so that all MRO operations will be moved to Bintan Island,” he said.
